The Wilson Trophy is to sailings Team racing what Wimbledon is to tennis. Held every year in May, The Wilson Trophy is hosted by West Kirby Sailing Club and sailed on the marine lake. Team comprise three boats which, in the case of 'The Wilson'
are Fireflies. Two teams sails in a race lasting around six to seven minutes only so the action is fast and furious. Boat handling skills and a sound knowledge of the rules are key in team racing, with teams trying to out manoeuvre and outwit each other.
The object is to get the lowest aggregate score; a total less than 10 points will win the round with a win awarded one point, a second gets two and so on.
This year in the Clubs 200th anniversary the club once again entered a team for the Wilson Trophy. The team comprised Ben Saxton crewed by Toby Lewis, Owain Matthews with
Marianthe Evangelidis and Sam Littlejohn with Charlotte Lawrence. The Royal Dee team sailed consistantly well throughout the event and gained a place in the finals,
eventually finishing in a very creditable third place.
